Redact a PDF without uploading it
Most online redaction tools start by sending your file to their server. Sumi does the whole job inside your browser tab: it finds personal data, you approve each item, and you download a clean copy. The original never leaves your computer.
What Sumi looks for
- names after labels and titles (and more with the optional on-device AI);
- email addresses and phone numbers;
- IBANs that pass their checksum and card numbers that pass the Luhn test;
- ID and passport numbers, including French social security numbers with a valid key;
- street addresses and dates of birth;
- company IDs, shown but kept by default.
How to do it
- Open the app and drop your PDF. Scans and photos work too.
- Review the list. Every finding can be switched between Remove and Keep, and the highlight on the page shows exactly where it sits.
- Add anything specific with "Redact a word or phrase everywhere".
- Use Draw box for areas with no text, such as a logo or a stamp.
- Turn on Preview to see the final file.
- Click Redact & download, confirm you reviewed the findings, and save.
How to check that nothing was sent
Load the app once, then switch off your Wi-Fi and redact a document. It still works. Or open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab while you redact: no request carries your file. The verification guide walks through both in under a minute.
Limits
Automatic detection is a helper. Unusual formats, nicknames or poor scans can slip past it, so the review step is part of the job.
Questions
Is it really free?
Every feature is free for documents up to 10 pages. Pro removes the limit for €5 a month.
Does it work offline?
Yes, after your first visit the app is cached in your browser.
Can the redacted text be recovered?
No. Each page is redrawn as an image with the boxes painted in, and the new file holds nothing else.
