What to hide on a payslip

It depends on who receives it. Usually:

• your social security or National Insurance number (French social security numbers must pass their key check before Sumi flags them);
• your IBAN and the bank details of the transfer;
• your home address if it is not asked for;
• your date of birth;
• your employee number;
• sometimes the breakdown of deductions or absences, if only the net pay matters.

A landlord usually needs the employer name, the net pay and the period. Keep those lines readable.

How to do it with Sumi

1. Open the app and drop your payslip PDF. A scan or a photo works too: the text is read on your device.
2. Review the findings: ID number, IBAN, address, date of birth. Each one can be switched between Remove and Keep.
3. For a line specific to your payslip (an employee number, a bonus label), type it into "Redact a word or phrase everywhere".
4. For a whole block, such as the absences table, use Draw box.
5. Turn on Preview: you see exactly the final document.
6. Click Redact & download, tick the review box, and save the copy.

How to check the result in 10 seconds

Open the downloaded file and try to select some text: nothing selects, because each page is now an image. In the PDF properties, the original author and title are gone.

Limits

Automatic detection helps but does not replace your own review. On a pale or tilted scan, look at the page in Preview before you send it.
